Nova Loses to WVU
With a 2 Seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament on the line, Villanova blew a 14-point lead in a 68-66 Overtime loss to West Virginia.
Despite holding the Mountaineers to only 16 points in the first half, Villanova (24-6, 13-5) was outscored by 13 in the second half and needed an NBA-range 3-pointer from Corey Fisher with 13 seconds remaining to send the game to the extra frame. Read more

West Virginia Preview
The 10th ranked Mountaineers head to South Philly on Saturday to take on #9 Villanova in a battle for the 2-seed in the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament. This will be the first matchup between the two schools at ‘Nova’s off-campus home.
‘Nova (24-5, 13-4) looks to repeat last month’s win over West Virginia in Morgantown when Scottie Reynold paved the way for the Wildcats with 21 points.
Free throws were the difference in the first game as WVU missed 14 attempts from the charity stripe, and they remain a difference to this point in the season as Villanova has over 100 more attempts at the line than Bob Huggins’ squad over the season. Read more

Nova Gets Back to Winning Ways With Win Over West Virginia
Villanova dropped to #5 in the recent ESPN/USA Today rankings behind West Virginia but traveled to Morgantown to “upset” the #4 team 82-75.
Scottie Reynolds led the way for Villanova (21-2, 10-1) with 21 points and moved into 4th place on Villanova’s all-time Scoring List. Villanova used an early streak in the first half to gain an eleven point edge at the intermission. The Wildcats used excellent outside shooting from the outside, hitting at a 57% clip (29-51) including 5-11 from behind the three-point arc (46%).
The disparity in the game came at the charity stripe. ‘Nova nailed 19 of 22 free throws, while West Virginia only hit 18 in 32 opportunities as the Wildcats rebounded from their first conference loss over the weekend against Georgetown. Villanova also out-rebounded the Mountaineer, 37-27. Read more

Op-Ed: ESPN’s Katz Crossed the Line
ESPN’s Andy Katz elevated my blood pressure with his Friday post featuring West Virginia’s coach, Bob Huggins. He waxes poetic about Huggins as the messiah “who has transformed West Virginia into an elite team in three seasons,” and compares him to John Calapari. OK, fair enough (although, I am left to wonder whether that comparison is the high praise he intended, and pray to St. Augustine that Jay Wright is forever spared similar acclaim). Where Katz crossed the line, however, was the incredulity and indignation he expressed in challenging the Big East Coaches Poll, which named Nova the league’s top team (narrowly winning by 3 votes, 218 – 215, over West Virginia). Wrote Katz, “The Mountaineers were projected to finish in second behind Villanova. But really, second place behind Nova? Does Villanova really have more talent than West Virginia or are the Wildcats just feeding off the Final Four run?” ESPN tried to lessen the sting of Katz’s comments, appending an Editor’s Note that begins “This isn’t meant as a dismissal of Villanova.”
