Hoops Mania Entertainers Leaked
The MySpace page for the hip-hop artist BizZ (who is Corey Stokes’s brother) noted that he and Lupe Fiasco would be performing at Villanova’s Midnight Madness event, Hoops Mania on October 24th.
Lupe Fiasco has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, and has won once.
The “Event Information” has since been taken down, but here’s a screen capture of the cache from Google.
10/22 UPDATE- Rumors from campus now include the possibility of T-Pain or T.I. who are performing with Jay-Z at the Wachovia Center on friday night. Maybe both artists? Maybe all 3??? Time will tell…

We’ll just have to wait a few weeks to see how this plays out.

‘Nova to Play Fordham?
A Fordham Message Board is noting that the Rams will be hosting Villanova this season in New York City.
With what we know about the 2008-09 Villanova Schedule, there are probably 2 or 3 more Out of Conference games to be announced.
Rumors, Rumors, Rumors. Early August Rumors…
Did we mention these are rumors???
It seems that the begining of August is finding lots of speculation flying around the Main Line. After the number of emails we’ve received today, we thought we’d share them with you.
- Assistant Coach, Brett Gunning, is in the process of interviewing with the Houston Rockets for their open “Assistant Director of Player Personnel” position. This comes to no surprise to us. Brett is routinely ranked one of the top assistant coaches in the country. And has been offered the Head Coaching position at Marist and as an assistant with Larry Brown with the Charlotte Bobcats.
- Initial rumors had a number of recruits visiting this week. The initial number was 4 split between ‘09 and ‘10 recruits. With today’s announcement of Tony Chenault committing to Wake Forest, odds are that three will be visiting (Dom Cheek is not one of them). To bump up the rumor, Jay Wright himself is “hoping to add 2 recruits by the end of the month.”
As always, feel free to send us your comments or insider tips. Thanks Steve, Bill.
So who do you think Jay is hoping to land? Mouphtaou Yarou? Aaric Murray? Talib Zanna? JayVaugh Pinkston? Josh Hairston? Markus Kennedy? Post a comment with your thoughts…
8/8 Update- Markus Kennedy was on campus on Tuesday. Aaric Murray was on campus on Wednesday.
Albany on the 2008-09 Schedule?
As we wait for the official word from The Davis Center on the entire 2008-09 Schedule, we can only piece-meal the schedule. This blog rumors that Villanova will be taking on Albany.
We know Navy is on the calendar.
Rumors have it that Texas will be playing ‘Nova in the Jimmy V. Classic as Michigan has backed out.
Future Out of Conference Games
There were rumors that Villanova was attempting to schedule a “Home and Home” with North Carolina for the 2008-09 and 09-10 seasons but that really never materialized.
‘Nova was closer to inking a game in this upcoming season with Duke to be played at either the Meadowlands or at Madison Square Garden. Rumors have it that after the Blue Demons saw how well Villanova travels and draws in New York City (reference the St. John’s game this year), that it really wouldn’t be a neutral court game for the Durham squad.
Besides the traditional Big 5 opponents, the 2008-09 Season will see Villanova playing in the Philadelphia Basketball Tournament where the initial games that could include Canisius or Niagara would be at The Pavilion with the Final Game at the Plaestra.
Villanova will also be appearing in the Jimmy V. Classic at Madison Square Garden with a likely matchup against the University of Michigan or Gonzaga.
Looking a further 17 months ahead, Villanova will be playing in Puerto Rico in the 2009-10 season and will try to make it out to play in Southern California.
: ‘Nova may play in Jimmy V Classic
Villanova seems to be one of the desired teams to participate in the Jimmy V Classic on December 9th at Madison Square Garden. The game would be on ESPN.
The Jimmy V Classic benefits the The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
RUMOR: Brett Gunning to Charlotte Bobcats?
Speculation is flying around the City of Brotherly Love and Tobacco Road that Larry Brown will be the next coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. On top of that, is the rumor that Brown will add longtime Jay Wright Assistant, Brett Gunning, to his NBA staff.
Gunning has been on Jay Wright’s staff since their time at Hofstra.
Brett was also rumored to be a candidate for the Marist Head Coach position but he withdrew his name.
: RUMOR: Duke’s Lance Thomas to Transfer
VUhoops.com hasn’t been above posting rumors before and figuring it’s going to be a slow week we thought we’d throw a small rumor out there…
Duke sophmore Lance Thomas is reportedly upset in Durham and possibly considering a transfer; Villanova would be a likely landing spot. The 6′8″ 220 pounder went to St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark with Corey Stokes.
Thomas played 18.5 minutes a game for Duke this year getting 4.3points and 4 rebounds.
We don’t know how strong the legs are on this rumo, but we do know that Lance’s experience, hussle, and size would be a welcome addition to this team after Dante Cunningham graduates.
