Here are some of the highlights from tonight’s Hoops Mania event if you were unable to attend or unsuccessfully tried to watch through [the very unreliable] Villanova.com All-Access…
- Howie Long & Terry Bradshaw introduced the Final Four tribute via video
- A member of the 1939 Villanova team who reached the school’s first Final four was on hand
Players from the 1971 team that made it to the Final as well as players from the 1985 National Championship squad then came out.- Members of last year’s team (with the exception of Dante and Dwayne) were on hand to receive Final Four rings.
- The Slam Dunk contest included winner Isaiah Armwood dunking over Jay Wright…
- The team then danced with the ‘Nova Dance Team to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
- A quick Blue-White scrimmage to 30- the blue squad with Scottie Reynolds won, 30-29
- Trey Songz, an R&B/Hip-Hop artist performed for the crowd.
Who Will Perform Tonight?
With Hoops Mania kicking off the Villanova Basketball Season tonight, speculation abounds as to whom the guest performer will be- if there is one.

Recruits and Midnight Madness
Many people think that having Villanova’s Midnight Madness event a full week after practice starts is “lame” and loses authenticity. Of course the main reason, that Hoops Mania occurs a week later is due to Nova’s Fall Break where minimal students are on campus. But there is another benefit- namely the lack of competition for a recruit’s availability. Read more

Here is some information for the Basketball Events that are going down over Homecoming Weekend on October 23-24.
Hoops Mania
- Friday the 23rd
- Tickets distributed via lottery to undergraduate students
- Any leftover tickets will be sold to Season Ticket Holders
- Doors open at 6p. Hoops Mania to begin at 7p
Blue/White Scrimmage
- Saturday the 24th
- Will begin 15 minutes after the completion of the Rhode Island/Villanova Football Game (which is scheduled to start at 330p)
- Free Admission
2009 Hoops Mania Date Set
Hoops Mania, Villanova’s annual basketball season tipoff, has been set for Friday, October 23rd at The Pavilion with a tentative time of 630p to open the doors.
The Blue/White scrimmage will be part of the evening, but other details are being figured out.
Originally known as Midnight Madness throughout the country, many schools celebrate the first day of official practice with a campus pep rally (and their own names for the festivities). This year’s date is October 16th. Since that is in the middle of Villanova’s Semester Recess, the Wildcats Hoops Team will celebrate with the student body a week later.

Hoops Mania Update
VUhoops.com apologizes for the lack of Hoops Mania coverage this weekend. We won’t make excuses, just simply note we’re sorry.
But in an effort to catch up from Friday Night’s events…
- Dominic Cheek, Maalik Wayns, Isaiah Armwood, and Mouphtaou Yarou were all in attendance. Other recruits seen included Marckus Kennedy
- “We Want Cheek” chants were rampant through the Pavilion
- Hip-Hop artist T. Pain performed
- Blue/White game teams were broken up as Anderson, Cunningham, Fisher, King, and Redding Vs. Clark, Peña, Reynolds, Sutton, and Stokes
