Football: Majors Re-Commits

Posted by Brian Ewart on October 19, 2011 · Under Football · 11 Comments

Just a quick note to keep Nova football fans in the loop. According to the Rivals.com database, Corey Majors, a linebacker who was among the Wildcats’ top recruits for 2011, has re-committed to join the program a year later after spending this year at Worcester Academy in Massachussets. They list his new commitment date as October 13, 2011.

Majors had committed to the ‘Cats, but due to apparent academic deficiencies, he was forced to attend prep school this year instead of college. There were questions at the time over whether Majors would ever attend Villanova.

While we haven’t seen his report cards from this academic year, presumably he will be good to go once signing day comes around. Villanova’s defense could use another strong and athletic linebacker.

The three-star recruit’s Scout.com profile shows that he had offers from Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Temple last year before committing to play for Andy Talley’s program.

That’s good news.  Excellent name for a football player.  Or even an astronaut who can be rebuilt, for that matter.

just realized i blew this one.  not funny.  his name would have to be Austin for it to be funny.  give me a pass.

Besides, James Bell is the $6M Man…He has titanium steel inside his legs!!

He was listed as 6’1  225lb as a Neshaminy senior but I assume we might get him closer to 235 lbs next year.   He might be even lil’ heavier depending how they want to use him.
He is tough as nails linebacker who should work very well in compliment to this year’s freshman sensation at linebacker 6’0 Dillon Lucas as well as highly touted fellow 2012 MLB recruit 6’2 Austin Calitro of Danbury,CT.
Villanova may be shaping up to have the best FCS Linebacking corp in the country in a few years if these players develop as expected.  .

BIG 33 coverage last summer. where he played along with two 2011 Nova recruits, RB Abdur-Rahmen & blocking TE Morgan Craig.

    >>>Majors had initially verbally committed to Villanova, but he will spend next year prepping at Worcester (Mass.) Academy. He still hopes to attend ‘Nova and play there after that.
It’s not like Majors doesn’t belong in the Big 33. He rushed for 522 yards and 11 touchdowns, but his real impact for the Redskins was as an inside linebacker: His 82 tackles were far and away tops on a team that finished 12-2 and reached the District One Class AAAA title game in 2010. <<<

Andy Talley will be begging and pleading with Admissions to get Major in this time around. The ‘Cats will have a ton of depth and talent at the LB position next season.

If I am understanding Adam Zangoria’s recent article correctly, the 5th year Prep School kids can only finish off 1 uncompleted core class in that extra year although they can re-take other classes to boost their academic profile.    (unless they get diagnosed with learning difficulty, then they can get 3 Core classes done).
I assume Majors graduated from Neshaminy with his HS degree (?) but just had too low a profile or ran out of time gettting his SAT’s where they needed to be since it was Feb-March when we heard the bad news.   With him commiting a 2nd time, I have to assume he has more than a decent chance of getting his situation approved by Admissions this time.   Otherwise, this would be a big problem in communications between the Football program & the Admissions Dept. to deny the kid once again.

In case others didn’t realize, junior offensive lineman Dan Shirley is also from Neshaminy HS and also was BIG 33 (2009) and PIAA All-State there.   (is Arcidiacono’s dad recruiting these kids?)

Maybe Ryan A. shouldn’t have given up his Football career as a flanker/WR after Archdiocese CYO Championship played at Villanova stadium where he caught passes from QB Ryan WHITNEY.

So there is your trivia question for next year on which Villanova athlete won a Football championship in Villanova Stadium….Ryan Arcidiacono.

Arcidiacono also led his CYO Basketball team at St Andrews-Newtown to a PA STATE Championship in 2008.  A feat that is quite difficult if you knew how many Basketball teams there were in the 8 Diocese of PA and the level of talent some of them have for 7th/8th graders.  Arcidiacono was the best player in the State tournament as an 8th grader.

Barney.  First, welcome back you old bastard.  Second, please get back to posting about basketball recruits.

If Mr. Arcidiacono were recruiting for Nova, I don’t think his nephew would have verbaled to Rutgers.

A problem of communication or the football coaches trying to push the issue? Let just assume he’s qualified now and that there are no further issues expected.

you darn skippy its a nice name!
