Villanova Hold Steady @ #7

In the newest polls released by both the Coaches and the Writers, Villanova has maintained their #7 ranking.

For the College Season’s 10th weekly poll, the Big East has five teams in the top 10 of the AP’s Poll; led by Syracuse & Pittsburgh at numbers 4 and 5 respectively. Then Notre Dame and UConn at #9 and #10.

Only a single point behind San Diego State in the AP poll. If we can beat a ranked Louisville and a strong Maryland team this week, I think we’ll jump up to 6th.

I still feel we are ranked higher than where we should be, and i think we do have the talent to be that high eventually. However, we keep winning, and you can’t argue with success. As someone said, you are what your record says you are. Cinci had not played that many quality teams, but they are for real. We need to beat Louisville, Maryland and Uconn to validate our ranking. haven’t seen San Diego State on Tv but once. they beat TCU, I believe, and did not look awesome, but did look very athletic. TCU looks like another DePaul, so bring it on and let’s recruit Texas!!!!

It’s hard to jump up unless a team ahead of you loses though.

    Pomeroy’s computer ranks Nova 11th.

So yes, we are likely a little bit overrated.

    UConn, however, is VERY overrated.

Hate to be a doubter but, after last season’s debacle in the tourney I find it hard to have a lot of faith in this team making the final four or even elite 8. I mean most of last season we cruised until, that is, we hit the Big East schedule then our true place was revealed, then we lost to Richmond? So I try not to get to excited. See the Eagles in past years how the city’s excitement was shattered when we were exposed. So until we get to the heart of conf. play…….and win. I won’t hold my breath.

Oops, I just realized we lost to ..even worse..St Mary’s…a ten seed!!! and I thought we only lost to a seven seed.

I think you’re looking at the wrong thing George…The tourney is about momentum and matchups. We had both working against us in the STM game last year. Fact is, like last year, there are no truly dominant teams. Nova is clearly among the teams with the tools necessary to compete for an E8, F4 or championship. I don’t think it’s about being able to beat Pitt and Cuse in January. It’s about getting better and playing our best in March.
