Update:  Wednesday, Jan 6, 8:00 PM: A total of 73 VUH readers have posted picks (none predicting a DePaul victory).  Collectively, the readers see Nova winning 83-65 (a  margin of 18 points and implied over/under of 148).   The Vegas odds-makers favor ‘Nova (-18.5) and call the over/under at 135.5 pts, or an implied score of 77-59.    The scatter chart depicting the VUH readers’ predictions is provided below.

 

Closest to the Pin DePaul 

Window Opening:  Monday, Jan. 4, 8:00 PM.   The window is now open for readers to post their predicted scores for Wednesday’s game against DePaul in our Closest to the Pin Contest.  After nine rounds, our leader board has Pete in first place with 14 points, Andy ‘06 in second place with 11 points, and Barney Rubble ‘87 in third place with 10 points.

‘Nova (12-1) has scored an average of 83.7 points while holding their opponents to 60.6.  DePaul (7-7) has scored an average of 59.9 points while giving up 61.1 points.  DePaul’s more significant wins included Northern Iowa (+8) and St. Joe’s (+7).  Their losses of note came at the hands of Tennessee (-4), Vanderbilt (-13), Mississippi State (-31), Pittsburgh (-13) and Georgetown (-17).  Villanova is ranked #8, has an RPI of 16 and an SOS of 132. DePaul is not ranked, has an RPI of 151 and an SOS of 83.  We’ll post our game preview and the Las Vegas spread / over-under on game day.
