We’re Not Feeling the Love, Andy
Andy Katz, who angered ’Nova fans by saying, West Virginia, not Villanova was deserving of the #1 rating in the coaches preseason Big East poll, is at it again. Here’s some choice quotes from his article today, If KU is No. 1, then who’s No. 2? :
“I would lean toward Syracuse. The Orange had quite a week. Syracuse had one of the more impressive wins earlier in the week when the Orange steamrolled Georgetown. Villanova has quite an argument as well with a home win over Notre Dame for its only game of the week. And after Syracuse found a way to win at DePaul when it didn’t play well, the edge could go to the Orange.” Read more

Who’s in First?
With Kentucky being knocked off of the top spot almost as quickly as they got there, commentators (professional and amateur alike) have been discussing who will be the new number-one team in the country come Monday afternoon. As these things normally work, the current number-two, Kansas, would seem to be most people’s favorite, should they make it through the weekend unscathed. Assuming they don’t, however, some analysts have expressed the opinion that Syracuse should jump Villanova to get to the top. Read more

Irking the Irish

The Fighting Irish have been members of the Big East conference in all-sports except football since 1995. In that time, they have won a single Big East (west) title in 2000. They have not been to the Final Four since 1978 and have no national championships in the tournament era. Historically, two of their most notable achievements have been ending some of UCLA’s Globetrotter-esque winning streaks in the 70s.
Notre Dame is currently one of four teams in the Big East with four wins, against Providence, USF, West Virginia and DePaul. They have also dropped conference games against Syracuse, Cincy and UConn. Read more
