big-east-logoWith the Big East season officially underway, the talking heads are all talking about what we can expect this season.  Here a sampling of what they are saying about the Cats.

Tom Noie of the South Bend Tribune asks, “Can Villanova repeat last year’s Final Four run?  No team in the nation may have a better four-guard attack with Corey Fisher, Reggie Redding, Scottie Reynolds and Corey Stokes, major-minute guys who have done it over the long haul. Duke transfer Taylor King is a nice fit-in guy, but the No. 8 Wildcats (11-1) still don’t have anyone who can provide what Dante Cunningham gave them an the interior last season. Freshman Mouphtaou Yarou was expected to help, but Hepatitis B has sidelined him for the season. There will come a time in league play, and in the NCAA tournament, when the lack of an interior presence may bite the Wildcats.” Read more

Jay Wright DecemberLast night, Mike asked us to vote.   This morning we learned that on the strength of Villanova’s Final Four run last March, Jay Wright was selected Daily NewsSportsperson of the Year.  He won over the likes of Donovan McNabb, Cliff Lee, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Scotty Reynolds (of “The Shot” fame).  Always humble, Coach Wright said,  ”I think I would have voted for Chase Utley, just because he was such a beast in the World Series.” Read more

Checking In On Our 2010 Recruits

Bell DecemberRivals reports that Villanova’s 2010 commits, made up of four-star prospects Jayvaughn Pinkston and James Bell and three-star prospect Markus Kennedy, ranks 26 in the country.  “Add Cory Joseph, the No. 7 ranked prospect in the Rivals 150, and Villanova would move up to at least No. 7, ahead of Duke in the rankings.”

MaxPrep reports that “Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) has a duo to be reckoned with in James Bell and Jamail Jones.  Bell busted out for a game-high 23 points and Jones had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 62-47 win over Westchester (Los Angeles, Calif.). In the pair of big wings’ opening-game win Saturday, it was Jones with a large 32 points while Bell had 13.”

Along with ‘Nova, Syracuse (#5), West Virginia (#6), and Connecticut (#10) represent the Big East in the Top 10.
