More to Life: #4 ‘Nova Football WINS at #1 Richmond
The Villanova Pigskin Squad is ranked #4 in the Nation in the FCS as they head south to Virginia to take on the #1 ranked Richmond Spiders.
Last year, ‘Nova knocked off Richmond when they were #1. The Spiders went on to win the National Championship and haven’t lost since.
Kickoff is scheduled for 330p. The game will be shown on Comcast SportsNet Philly, MidAtlantic, and New England.
UPDATE: Cats Hold On To Win 21-20
AP reports that Villanova stunned Richmond 21-20. After Nova led the entire game, Richmond took a 20-14 lead with 2:22 left. The Cats regained the lead for good when Brandyn Harvey made a one-handed grab of Chris Whitney ’s fourth-down pass for a 29-yard touchdown with 59 seconds left . However, the drama was not quite over, as Richmond had one final chance to win with a kick when they drove to the Wildcats’ 17 with 10 seconds left. However, Andrew Howard ’s 35-yard field goal try was wide left. The Wildcats ended a 17-game winning streak by Richmond, the defending national champions of the Football Championship Subdivision.

All Access says they have audio, but as Mike has said, don’t count on it.
I would love to see the Cats take this one. We need a winning football team to bridge us to basketball season!
Richmond already has their Pre-Game audio going-
Villanova scores TD 1Q. 7 - 2 Nova
wow nova just went up 21-20 with less than a minute left
I just saw that Junior. This would be big for the program!
yeah man….real big…i have to be honest, i was never a big VU football fan when i was there (03-07) and frankly i found the players on the team to be the main reason for my apathy toward the team, but now that I am out of there, I just like to see Villanova do well.
nova wins!
Unbelievable game!!!!
did anyone get to see the game? im upset i didnt get to see it
Announcer was obviously pro-Richmond, as after the Richmond kicker missed the last field goal he said, “This guy blows…end this f***ing game already.”
All Access had the VU announcers with good quality coverage and the Game Tracker. I was pleasantly surprised given the poor quality and technical difficulties of their coverage in the past.
Big-time win for Coach Talley and the team. Payback for what Richmond did to Nova last year. I am sure there might be a rematch a month from now in the playoffs.
Has anyone else noticed that the Cats’ win over D-1 Temple is looking more impressive each week? Temple’s only other loss this year was to Penn State, and the Owls are now 7-2 overall.
My apologies on my last post. This was not pay back as I got confused with the JMU loss on Homecoming last year. The Cats beat Richmond who was #1 at the time at home earlier in last year’s campaign.
A great game. An incredible catch on the final 4th down touchdown pass. Should be a Sports Center Top 10. By the way, I don’t think that was the announcer at the end — sounded like a sound feed from someone else. Looks like Comcast will have some major apologizing to do.
Someone snuck into the tv feed at the end and used language that will get someone in trouble. What a catch at the end!!! I thought the two times that we were knocking on the door and didn’t score [the failed field goal and the interception] would come back to haunt us. We should not have passed in that last situation, we should have pounded the ball and tried a field goal the second time. The game was a classic, and for a change, we came out on top. I thought I’d never get over the one we lost last year to JM at the last second [after they had done exactly the same thing at the end of the first half]. This could be the break we needed to start attracting some good luck, which you need to win it all in the end.
I’m curious to see where we will be ranked on Monday. I have a feeling that the voters will give the top spot to someone else.
Either way, this was a great win, and it proves to me that we have a team that is capable of beating pretty much anyone out there.

Brian: I agree with your point on the rankings. My guess is that Montana (previously #2 and still undefeated) will jump to #1 … Richmond and Nova will grab the #2 and #3 slots, but not necessarily in that order.
Harvey’s TD catch was one of ESPN College Gameday’s Plays of the Day.
Chad: can you find a video of that for me?
I looked at teh ESPN site for a video and couldn’t find it. Certainly doesn’t mean it isn’t there somewhere.
I looked all over the web and can not find it either. It says something about society that when you search “Villanova-Richmond” there are at least 5 hits for the profanity laced tirade but not one result related to Harvey’s tremendous play. And we wonder why the nightly news is filled primarily with murders and other crimes?
Video of the catch can be seen here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfoWuE9WtEY
Mike, you are the best. If you are in PR I owe you a drink.
