The 1969 La Salle vs Villanova is legendary. It is the only meeting between La Salle great Kenny Durrett (an All American and Philadelphia school yard legend) and Villanova’s Howard Porter. Both played for several more years, but Durrett was injured and missed a season before coming back. And Porter was gone by the end of the 1971 season.

I will have to check out the Penn vs Villanova game — they played twice that year. The first was a regular season Big 5 meeting won by the Quakers. It propelled them into the Top 10 rankings for the rest of the season (Quakers had a great team led by 2 terrific guards). The second meeting was in the NCAAs. And the ‘Cats beat them like a drum.
