Fantasy Tournament Game 6 – Team Severance vs Team Wright
This is the sixth game of the Barney Rubble ’87 Fantasy Tournament. All games are played in “The Fieldhouse of Dreams.” In last night’s game, Team Lappas lost its second game by a single point, this time to Team Massimino. Rollie pulled out another coaching gem, taking full advantage of the absence of the shot clock in what many VUHoops readers called the second “perfect upset” of his Villanova coaching career. Barney provided this report from court side: “Kittles went off in this one even in the face of defenders Pressley and West, scoring 25pts, but it was not enough. Keith Herron matched Kittles for most of the game, scoring 19pts. Pinckney finished with 9pts/9 rebounds against this ‘larger than GTown’ frontline. Pinone put in a workman-like 14pts/8 rebounds.” Team Massimino shot 77% from the field and 99% from the free throw line.

Hail Szczur
Mark Jensen of the Philly Inquirer wrote a nice feature on Matt Szczur covering a lot of things that you may not know about one of our favorite Villanova athletes. Here’s the condensed version:
- “Szczur was born a little different.”When the doctor pulled him out, he stretched out – he’s got biceps, calf muscles. He had definition,” said his father, Marc. “I was like, ‘What do we have here, Arnold Schwarzenegger?’ “
- “The first year Szczur was allowed to pitch in Little League, after T-ball, he threw no-hitters in his first three games” Read more
Fantasy Tournament Game 5 – Team Massimino vs Team Lappas
This is the fifth game of the Barney Rubble ’87 Fantasy Tournament. All games are played in “The Fieldhouse of Dreams.” In last night’s game, Team Kraft defeated Team Wright by one point. Barney provided this report from court side: “Howard Porter and Jim Washington muscled for double double-doubles — 20pts/15 reb and 12pts/13reb, respectively. Hubie White got 14pts and Johnny Jones added 9. Wali Jones matched Scottie Reynolds with 14. ”
Always a class act, Jay Wright said after the game,“We almost got there. We just ran out of time,” Team Kraft played great. We had no answer for Porter and Washington down low. I thought we competed hard and this might have been the first game in the tournament so far that everybody got it.”

Today, we’re going to look at 6’8″ Kyle Anderson (’12). That’s right a, 6-Foot, 8-Inch Point Guard.
Although he has been a primary ballhandler at Patterson Catholic, Anderson is transferring to play for Bob Hurley Sr. at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City this year, and it will be interesting to see where the legendary coach plays the versatile guard. Read more
Philly Inquirer Talks Nova Football
Keith Pompey, staff writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, wrote a feature today on Villanova’s preseason All American, offensive tackle Ben Ijalana, and gave a quick assessment of Nova’s prospects this season. It is well worth the read, but we have summarized the highlights below. With a hat-tip to reader ramon usategui, the Miami Herald picked up a heartwarming AP story that never gets old, Szczur Makes Tough Calls Easy at ‘Nova.”
**Buy Tickets for Villanova vs. Temple**
According to Mr. Pompey, Ijalana, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound senior is considered the second-best senior prospect at guard for the 2011 NFL draft, behind Florida State’s Rodney Hudson. Ijalana is the only FCS player named to the Outland Trophy watch list, the award for the nation’s top interior lineman. He is also a preseason candidate for the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the best player in the FCS.” Read more

Joe Huggard was able to beat Rollie’s traps early, but tired down the stretch. Paul Arizin ended with 20 points, Larry Hennessy scored 16 and Bob Schaeffer 11 for Team Severance.
